The definition found is something that one looks at and finds interesting, leading to a desire to take it, especially when no one else has claimed those items in certain places. Additionally, it can mean wanting to try to return it after taking it when the owner is known. If the owner is not known but the location name is liked, the place where it is found holds important clues for returning those items. If unable to return it, those items can be donated for others to use, so one won’t be considered a thief.
As of today, the item I have held onto recently is a Quran, known as The Meaning of the Holy Quran. I found it not long ago at a surau in my school while preparing for my studies during high school. At that moment, I felt a strong curiosity to learn about it, but the Quran was tucked away in the back, where no one else seemed to notice it. I took it to class to read and then brought it home, where it has stayed ever since.
There was no Quran translation available at the time, but the desire to learn and improve understanding was limited until access to the internet was gained, which offered more information on translations. This Quran has occasionally been used for reference on topics not understood, particularly in certain Surahs that contain explanations for every word and verse, such as Asbabul Nuzul. It was truly enlightening. There was recognition of a lack of religious knowledge at that time, especially concerning the Quran.
This Quran has been with me to this day, and there is contemplation on whether to return it, donate it to a mosque, or give it to someone who can read it, so it won’t be seen as a theft. Thoughts on this would be appreciated. This Quran has facilitated learning of concepts that were not understood and has greatly assisted in remembering the verses and Surahs, particularly those used in obligatory and Sunnah prayers. There has never been any guilt about taking this item that was found; it is found to be really fascinating.
Giving it to someone for their learning would be a good idea, but that person has yet to be found. This holy Quran has been kept for over 10 years now, which seems like a long time to hold onto it. Thoughts on this matter would be of great interest.
