What are my first days at school and work like?
Daily writing prompt
Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.
  • About refers to a subject connected to a specific object concerning their characteristics, such as physical traits, nature, or internal qualities. These characteristics encompass their external appearance, which can be observed by others, enabling them to follow how they look. Nature pertains to normal features like weight, height, and dimensions of these objects.
  • First denotes the singular form of an object that cannot be counted more than once and is considered to be one only. “First” distinguishes itself from others because its attributes may be perceived as strengths rather than weaknesses. It should be acknowledged, as it typically embodies characteristics that are rare, resembling gold.
  • Day signifies the typical emergence of the sun and its descent, with days being counted. A day lies between night and morning, illustrating a different routine during these periods. Generally, morning marks the beginning of the workday, while nights are primarily for rest. When the sun sets, it indicates the completion of that day.
  • Somethings can be derived from “some” and “things.” Some indicates a small subset of things that can prove useful in daily life. There may be more than one, but not in large quantities, since it refers to a minor portion of many. Things are viewed as numerous objects that are beneficial to humans and other living beings. Therefore, things can encompass any physical entity that exists in this world and is significantly useful, along with non-physical entities that can be felt emotionally.
  • School is an institution where teachers, books, writing, reading, friends, and classes coexist. It is a space for individuals to learn from one another, foster friendships, experience love, and more. Schools can be classified within society and are likely divided into areas such as science, religion, national studies, among others. This is the foundation for people in the 21st century, where the majority receive their education.
  • Work refers to the process of earning income, sustaining oneself, and participating in various careers and trades. It is the setting where individuals engage in exchanges with others by utilizing their skills and abilities to produce goods, services, and other forms that typically yield profit. Work is categorized as trade because, over time, individuals work and acquire interest from others, as society seeks to trade something in return for their contributions.
  • My first day at school was marked by awkwardness, misinformation, and a lack of understanding, particularly during high school when I wore a different uniform, like a t-shirt, rather than the designated school uniform. I searched for an empty seat to sit down and encountered a friend sitting next to me. As time passed, I pursued higher education, especially what high school offered. The first day was when I encountered my last friend from the previous year, and we spent some time together before not meeting again afterward. That’s all I remember.
  • At a more advanced stage, when I began my bachelor’s degree, I recall struggling to find parking on the first day, which was challenging since I was unfamiliar with the location of the parking area. I also met different international friends, new teachers, and an entirely new environment at the school. Nevertheless, I did not manage to form strong friendships on that first day.
  • Lastly, I want to share my experience from my first day at work, when I got lost en route and arrived late. The workday officially starts at 9:00 AM, but I showed up at 9:30 AM, which was 30 minutes behind schedule. This was also the moment I met my senior coworkers, who were understandably annoyed by my lateness. Nevertheless, it ultimately proved to be a worthwhile experience. Fortunately, I did not marry or become a parent because I was unable to secure a full-time position or find a full-time employer.
  • This marks the intersection of my first day at school and work, memories that continue to linger in my mind. I hope to gain insights from this perspective, where I could improve in some way or where you could learn from my experiences.
