Parents Raised Me: Overview

My parents raised me in a simple village, where I had my mother, father, grandmother, and grandfather around me, especially when I was a kid. Once I grew up and became an adult, some of them passed away, usually my grandparents. Most of my elders, or what I call my parents, worked in agriculture since we lived in a village. Some of my cousins actually lived in the city rather than nearby, so they were a bit farther away from me and we didn’t live in the same place. I only met them at certain events like holidays and celebrations that happened occasionally.

Parents Raised Me: Parent’s Profession and Other Business

Like my father who used to work at some industrial building while I was still in school, I grew up differently from him but still shared some of his attitudes. He worked for a foreign company in those places, while I was a normal student and at some point received daily wages from my mother. After he no longer worked at the company, he eventually became a repair person, or in a way, a professional engineer. I know and realized this from my mother herself, who told me he was really good at fixing things related to transport. Meanwhile, I had no way at that point to be similar to him in that kind of profession.

Parents Raised Me: Still Studying

During the time when my parents, especially my father, were no longer working, I eventually became scared to work, especially on repair stuff. At that time, I was still studying in high school and preparing to go to university. This is when I didn’t really test my skills, which are not in my father’s field. He also didn’t really encourage me to work on that kind of thing; he used to get mad at me at those points. Till this day, I actually have never really worked on repair stuff without him beside me. I only work on things like electronic repair, like laptops. This started when I ran something in high graphic quality and broke my laptop. The laptop shut down by itself and never turned on again. Till this day, I have never been able to use the laptop again.

Parents Raised Me: Going With My Hobby

I have actually been working on game development for the last few years. Even when I was at university, I took some courses related to that. This focus has actually cost me a lot up to today in some ways because of my studies. Since I have no way of being employed by someone else, I tried Fiverr, especially for selling my stuff on that platform. During my internship, that experience really helped me, and I gained some knowledge related to other kinds of fields, but those are still within the scope of what I believe is my specialty. At this point, game development has become my passion.

Conclusion from How Parents Raised Me

In conclusion, even though today I am, in some ways, taking a different path because I continued my studies after high school, I have never regretted it, because that choice led me into game development. There is also something inside me that tells me it might have been better if I had just helped my father with his repair work. Because of my childhood ignorance and other factors, I was actually led away from that path. Even now, I still do not know whether I should follow my father’s profession, since that is how I was raised. For that reason, it remains a question that I believe needs an answer.
