My favorite restaurant is a seafood place where they serve a variety of sea creatures and animals that inhabit aquatic environments. The menu features dishes like grilled fish, fried prawns, a mixed crab grill, and vegetables cooked in oil, among others. However, I don’t really know the names of the dishes, as my parents usually place the orders for all of us to enjoy together during special occasions throughout the year. This restaurant is located in Malaysia, specifically in Bangan Lalang, Selangor. I know my parents typically spend around 250 Ringgit Malaysia for all the dishes served at the restaurant.
First, customers who arrive need to find their own seats while placing an order, usually starting with a drink and some appetizers before selecting larger meals. When opting for this type of meal, one should visit the nearby display that showcases the current selection of fish and other seafood available for sale. After making their choices, the restaurant staff will cook the selected fish for the customer promptly. All I did was wait at the table with my family members before being served our meals. Along with the prepared drinks, we received some snacks such as fried chips and grilled crab for us to enjoy while we waited.
I discovered that my usual choices were Nescafe or Milo, especially during my teenage years and even earlier, but I eventually transitioned to fruit drinks like mango, which are incredibly sweet and delicious. My father also developed a fondness for mango drinks, having picked up the habit from me. When I tried grilled crab served on banana leaves, I found that the dish required careful unwrapping before consumption. The combination was splendid, blending the sweetness of sugar with crab mixed with other ingredients I couldn’t quite identify. For some reason, I enjoyed these dishes since they were easy to eat without much effort, thanks to their tender texture which became slightly firmer after grilling. The crispy fried chips also provided a delightful snack while I waited for the meal and chatted with my family.
My parents also shared with me that the restaurant I’ve been visiting since childhood is a place I don’t remember much about, except for perhaps the drink I usually order. When the food arrives, the first thing that comes to mind is the rice that’s served. It’s taken from the hot pot and placed onto empty plates for all family members, and I tend to take only a small portion since there are other dishes that don’t require as much rice. The taste of the prawns, cooked in a savory sauce with a hint of sweetness, is delightful, making the dish truly exceptional. The other type of crab is just as enjoyable, likely accompanied by barbecue or soy sauce that adds a wonderful aroma and flavor when eaten. Additionally, the grilled fish is tender and delicious, especially when enjoyed straight from its open body. The hot, white flesh offers a taste that’s unparalleled.
Additionally, there are various vegetables and fried octopus served with red sauce. I find that all of this food is delightful and satisfies hunger more quickly than eating at home. However, it’s important to exercise moderation to avoid health issues that can arise from overeating these dishes. From what I recall, these are the main dishes I remember enjoying during special family gatherings where we share both blood and food, celebrating our joy together. I have come to realize the significance of relationships and silaturrahim, especially as I’ve noticed a decline in these connections over the past few years. Perhaps I have been selfish and not considerate of others’ feelings. Please share your thoughts related to this post in the comments section. Thank you.
