Throughout my life, I have been passionate about camping, spending time in the countryside and experiencing a simpler way of living outside of my home and village. This was particularly true during my school years when camping became part of my extracurricular activities in both middle and high school, especially during that last final year before graduation when everyone went their separate ways. My camping journey began in primary school when I joined the scout club, where my friends and I would camp out at night in huts. We followed all the necessary procedures, with a leader overseeing every situation. While I don’t recall exactly how I joined, I do remember sharing a tent with a few guys. It was swelteringly hot, and we had to open the tent flaps to let some air in. Even though I struggled to sleep due to the barking of a dog in the nearby field, those experiences remain vivid in my memory.

The field is supposedly used for football games and serves as a sports venue for various events. The campsite here is utilized by the scout club for camping activities. It was a great experience for me and my friends, where we shared good visions and built friendships, even though I’ve lost contact with both of them. The next camping trip I went on was with a close friend, particularly when I was part of the Islamic Crescent Medical Club, which involved camping with other schools. This is where I used to camp outdoors, although I didn’t sleep in a tent; I don’t remember much about it except that there was a storm with heavy rain and strong winds that forced us to seek shelter elsewhere. The food is usually provided by the hosts for the participants. I gained valuable experiences and made wonderful friends from other schools, despite them being from different institutions.

The last camping trip I went on was during my final year of school, where I became part of a friendship club known in Malaysia as PRS. We teamed up with other high school clubs for the camping trip, where we slept in tents. I enjoyed the food, although I ate slowly because I wasn’t familiar with it. I had other friends there, but I ended up sleeping with some junior students, which caused some trouble later on. During our adventures in the jungle, I encountered some small creatures that typically cling to others. These leeches attach themselves to people, and such an encounter is rare if one doesn’t follow the proper procedures. I regret not listening to the teacher, who advised against tying my trouser legs, as some of my lighter friends managed to remove the parasites by shining a light on them.

During the night, I encountered unfortunate events, along with experiences I find hard to describe as they unfolded into the morning. It felt like bad luck prevented me from fully participating in what could have been the best camping experience of my life. These camping trips also marked the conclusion of my outdoor activities, which, to this day, I feel no longer holds the same significance for me. However, it was a valuable experience where I learned a lot about nature and made social connections with friends who shared similar interests, much like being part of a school community. Although I never lit the campfire myself, sleeping in a tent was an experience I truly valued. In conclusion, I received a certificate of participation, which I still cherish today.

In conclusion, my participation in camping has taught me about nature and how to appreciate the challenges of life, particularly when it comes to basic needs like food, water, and shelter. By engaging in camping, I have experienced a more rugged lifestyle, far from the comforts of home that typically provide easy access to these essentials, which are often difficult to find at a campsite that lacks modern electronics. This experience has given me a unique understanding of these systems, which might seem amusing to some. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
