Developing an Endless Runner Game in Unreal Engine

October 2018 – November 2018

  • The Battle Run project is a concept inspired by the Endless Runner genre and was developed as part of my final year project, guided by a university lecture. The game was created using Unreal Engine 4.2 and was completed within a timeframe of one month.
  • The level design is constructed based on 2D images viewed from a top-down perspective. I integrated essential game elements, including obstacles, rendered images, player characters, items, and monsters. I programmed collision triggers to ensure that obstacles descend from the top left corner of the screen when a player approaches. The player’s objective is to evade the pursuing monster while pressing a designated button to maintain their speed.
  • Furthermore, I programmed collision mechanics for the user interface menu widget, including a game pause feature. The main menu showcases the player character in a three-dimensional rendered texture within the scene. Players also can press a specific button to increase their running speed.
  • I applied various textures to both the walls and the player character, the majority of which were sourced from public-domain repositories. I do not remember the link for the assets character, but the sound is from freesound.org.
