A particularly unforgettable positive encounter with a stranger took place while I was shopping at the center. At that time, I was working as a takaful or insurance agent before fully returning to self-employment. My job involved reaching out to potential clients interested in purchasing the health insurance products I offered through my company. While searching for customers, I moved between various locations, meeting a variety of strangers and unfamiliar faces. During my interviews or questionnaires with shop owners, I gathered crucial details like their names and phone numbers to make follow-up cold calls about the takaful.

There is a young man working at the shop where they sell items like kurma, kimis, and other Arabic foods, and customers need to purchase by weight rather than by bulk. During my visit, I asked him about his age, and I was surprised to learn that he is still single and unmarried. He mentioned that marriage doesn’t seem suitable for him at the moment, as he believes he should have enough resources for it first. I was taken aback by his responses and realized that I, too, had not thought deeply about the right time to get married. To this day, I understand how significant those questions and answers have been for me, even if the English translation may sound odd due to cultural differences.

Being single has been a decision I made due to my circumstances and the ongoing need to meet certain conditions that remain unmet. I’ve realized that there are likely others in similar situations, unbeknownst to me, who share my experiences. At that time, my social circle was just beginning to form, with my work in takaful serving as an opportunity to connect with others and exchange information. However, I had to erase the details about those individuals to comply with personal data protection regulations in Malaysia.

In conclusion, meeting with those strangers has introduced me to new perspectives on where I should consider making decisions, especially regarding marriage—a topic that many people have already addressed. My curiosity in asking questions stems from my desire to connect with others in similar situations who share my culture and religion. Over time, these encounters have left a lasting impression on me, as they encourage positive thoughts about marriage, which I see as something to prepare for rather than jump into prematurely. Being single has also been beneficial, as it allows me to focus on my own responsibilities without the added pressure of a partner’s needs. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
