The movie I thought I would dislike but ended up enjoying is Real Steel, which was released in Malaysian cinemas around 2011. For the first time, I watched this type of film with friends, as we often gathered to enjoy certain genres together. That was a memorable time, especially in high school, when we would go out during our breaks to seek entertainment and have fun. We planned to watch the movie as a group, but I wasn’t really informed about what Real Steel was about. At that time, I was quite ignorant and unaware of various topics and other people’s interests. Therefore, I mistakenly believed that a movie called Real Steel must be bad, and I doubted I would enjoy it based on its title alone.

But I ended up watching that movie during that time and fell in love with it while sharing the experience with them. It’s a film that I can still recall today, remembering vividly the moments we enjoyed together. From what I remember, the story revolves around a hero robot that comes from a pile of discarded rubbish and is rescued by a human who recognizes the robot’s superior capabilities and potential to become a boxer in the ring later on. Although I wasn’t familiar with the actors, especially a child actor, I know that the man known as Wolverine trains the robot to be a boxer. He primarily teaches the robot to react during training, often using punches during combat. The connection between the robot and its human host is crucial, making their interactions an essential part of their journey toward achieving victory.

As the movie progresses, the hero robot faces off against a smaller robot to reach the final match against a more powerful opponent. I was surprised to realize that this hero robot contends with a superior robot, particularly in scenes involving certain letters of the Chinese alphabet. The prowess of the hero robot is significantly stronger than that of the inferior or disposable robot, as it possesses a deep understanding of its capabilities in battle. The final move made by the hero robot leaves the opponent unresponsive, leading to its declaration as the winner. However, throughout this journey, the hero robot encounters numerous challenges, including malfunctions caused by damage inflicted by its enemies.

The reason I fell in love with the movie is due to the challenges faced by the hero robot, who overcomes obstacles from the beginning to ultimately secure first place in the competition. I call it the hero robot because I don’t know its actual name, but it is the central character of the film. Additionally, the robot, salvaged from a garbage dump, demonstrates that even discarded items can become stronger when repaired instead of being improperly disposed of. These elements have taught me valuable lessons about how recycling can lead to a better environment, ultimately protecting and benefiting others in need.

In conclusion, the movie has become a cherished part of my memories, as I fondly recall moments from it, even if not every detail is clear. I especially think about the times spent hanging out with my high school friends after exams. Those years were filled with joy, and I often lost myself in the company of others. Although my life has improved over the years without them, I still hold on to those memories and the film itself. I welcome your thoughts in the comments.
