Something I once believed as a child, which now seems ridiculous, is the belief in paranormal ghosts, often depicted in Malaysian folklore. This occurred frequently during my childhood, as I encountered various representations of ghosts in films and TV shows that frightened me. Honestly, I cannot recall ever truly believing in such things, especially since my surroundings were filled with stories of different ghost forms. Personally, I was always scared of these ideas, which often led me to run away from them. This phenomenon exists in my society, and some people actually believe in it. However, I cannot remember my own convictions, though my mother has mentioned that some of these ghosts were believed to exist in the past.

Although I am no longer a child to believe in such stories or the narratives that others used to tell, I now find it ridiculous to entertain ideas that contradict Islamic principles. Belief in God is a fundamental aspect of faith, one that does not involve engaging in practices that lead to shirk or blasphemy. As a child, I used to listen intently to the horror stories my older brother would tell, but I never fully understood their origins, nor did I genuinely believe in them because I lacked knowledge. Over time, as I grew up, I revisited some horror stories from around the world, which helped me comprehend the concept of spirits or ruh as illustrated in the videos.

For me, such matters evoke varied opinions and perceptions concerning the ghost stories in circulation today. Some ghosts, in fact, were merely humans attempting to prank others or commit crimes through unconventional means, as I have observed in various YouTube videos. Ultimately, these individuals often get apprehended by the police, leading me to doubt these tales. Additionally, there are lingering questions about spirits or ruh, which seem to exist only in certain parts of the world that I have yet to explore, relying solely on videos to inform me. During my childhood, I never encountered these concepts firsthand; they were simply new elements added to the horror stories shared by content creators. My culture and folklore depict numerous narratives that have guided me toward a belief in religion, as these phenomena typically affect those who have little understanding of faith, particularly when one is a child and lacks knowledge of related topics.

In conclusion, the stories I believed in as a child, especially those about the paranormal, often frightened me to the point where I would run from my bedroom. This phenomenon typically affects those who lack understanding, and who may have been misled by fabricated tales that lack truth or proper identification. Ultimately, what matters is that one should have more faith in the creator of the world, who holds authority over all things. For me, these tales seem ridiculous and insignificant; however, I still find other stories intriguing and continue to explore them through horror narratives based on facts. Yet, I only fully believe in certain aspects now, not everything. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section.
