Overview of Historical Event

If I could go back to any historical event to witness it, I would choose the Fall of Malacca in 1511. Among my races and ethnic groups, people regard the town of Malacca as historical, especially in Malaysia. The authorities protect several buildings there as historical sites. Looking at some of them today shows some significant changes to that. Various interventions and powers from the past contributed to these changes. We can see the influence of the Portuguese, Dutch, British, and even the Japanese. In the past, many Malayans, who ruled the land, regarded them as enemies, especially in relation to the sultanate.

Malacca Historical Event

The port of Malacca at the time served as a center of maritime trade. According to my research, merchants conducted a lucrative spice trade, especially in Southeast Asia. Many people came to the port to exchange different kinds of items. Usually, traders brought these items from East Asia, such as China, and from many other regions. Malacca at the time played an important role because it controlled the trade routes between places in Southeast Asia. People also say that Malay warriors defended the port and city from colonial powers. Sultan warriors used a variety of weapons, such as the keris and even cannons, to attack enemy ships.

Why I chose that Historical Event

I found it remarkable to witness those historical events, especially the battles between the opposing forces. I survived to this day after witnessing them, so I can now tell their story to others. Portuguese writers also recorded their side of the events when they came into contact with the Sultan’s forces that defended their position. In addition, many contingents and expeditionary forces later came into Malacca and ultimately conquered it. Watching how the real battles unfolded, especially the casualties on both sides, struck me deeply. The struggle and determination of both forces to achieve their goals were extraordinary.

Conclusion from the Two Forces

From the historical event, records show that Malacca actually fell to the Portuguese, not the Indians. The Portuguese were the foreign power that came into contact with Malacca and conquered the city. Their conquest of Malacca changed many things, such as leading to the construction of Fort A Famosa. Today, only a small part of the original building remains intact. Not only that, but witnessing the large ships that both forces deployed is also spectacular. As you know, historically in the past, sailors carried out voyages and travel to other places by sea using ships, often known as warships. Usually, the Portuguese built large ships and mounted cannons on them because of their advanced knowledge related to shipbuilding. Let me know what you think in the comment section.
